FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 12, 2017 – Electronics For Imaging, Inc. (Nasdaq:EFII) announced that Dome, a commercial print solutions provider headquartered in California, recently purchased EFI™ VUTEk® FabriVU® 340 soft signage and VUTEk 5r roll-to-roll printers. The new high-volume inkjet printers are to be installed in Dome’s newly renovated, Sacramento, Calif., facility by the end of this year.

The purchase is part of a strategic re-invention of the company that also includes merging several locations into the new facility, as well as opening new company sales offices in Chicago and Southern California. The two new presses will replace three models from various manufacturers; once installed, Dome’s superwide-format inkjet graphics operation will exclusively use EFI printers.

A complete solution for high-volume out-of-home graphics
“We are going into uncharted waters for our company, and we don’t need a vendor, we need a partner to help us succeed.” said Dome President Misha Pavlov. “It’s a strategic move, for sure — EFI has invested in us, and us in them.”

Those uncharted waters include expanding Dome’s offerings into out-of-home (OOH) graphics work. “I think the 5r was compelling to get into OOH,” noted Dome Chief Marketing Officer Bob Poole. “It is a space we have demand in, but that we currently don’t occupy. This is our response to customer demand, and it brings new capability to the company.”

The 5-meter wide VUTEk 5r model is designed to be the industry’s most technically advanced LED roll-to-roll production offering, and has the highest speed and resolution in its class, offering superior quality using EFI UltraDrop™ Technology 7-picoliter print heads. Dome’s printer includes a complete, integrated production workflow with value-added options, including an inline finishing system for all-in-one printing, x-cutting, slitting and collecting; ID backprinting; double-sided printing; additional white and light colors; and a vacuum table for rigid substrates.

Sustainability, quality and value with reusable soft signage
Dome’s new, 3.4-meter wide VUTEk FabriVU 340 printer meets growing customer demand for textile soft signage. Dome is pursuing the print industry’s Sustainable Green Printing (SGP) Partnership, and soft signage also fits well with the company’s effort to expand environmentally friendly solutions.

“The VUTEk FabriVU printer gives our customers a greener option with graphics that can be re-used rather than displayed once and thrown away,” Poole said. “Fabric can be rolled into anything and shipped inexpensively where it needs to go, and then the customer can pop it in a frame on site.”

The new soft signage printer was developed with the advanced textile imaging technology knowledge base that EFI Reggiani – a global leader in industrial textile imaging – has established over the past 70 years. Printing in ultra-high resolutions up to 2,400 dpi using EFI aqueous dye sublimation inks, it also has the unique ability to print on transfer paper or direct-to-fabric with the same inkset, saving considerable labor and machine downtime compared to other printers requiring ink changeovers for different substrates.

New EFI Fiery® proServer digital front ends (DFEs) installed with the new printers provide the imaging technology needed for stunning, precise and predictable colors. EFI’s FAST RIP (Fiery Accelerated System Technology) included with all Fiery proServers, keeps printers running at their rated speeds, ensuring a maximum return on printer investments. In addition to its new VUTEk printer and Fiery DFE purchases, Dome is also a long-time user of EFI MIS/ERP workflow software.

“Dome has always been a great company, but we’re making bold moves right now which represent our metamorphosis into a world-class company,” said Pavlov of his company’s strategic new direction. “There is no other printer in our region—or even the United States—that’s doing what we’re doing. We’re making significant investments and setting ourselves up for a very aggressive growth trajectory. We rely on partners like EFI to bring to market best-in-class solutions that enable us to serve our customers and grow our business.”

EFI and Dome announced Dome’s new signage and graphics capabilities during the 2017 SGIA Expo in New Orleans, where EFI is exhibiting VUTEk roll-to-roll and FabriVU soft signage products along with its complete ecosystem of digital print production technologies. DOME brings the KBA Rapida 205 and 106 to our operations

For Immediate Release, March 29, 2017
Amy Labowitch, Marketing Specialist
DOME, 800-343-3139

Las Vegas, NV and Sacramento, CA – DOME is excited to announce a partnership with KBA that brings the KBA Rapida 205, 81 inch and the Rapida 106, 41 inch UV perfector to their growing operation. With these purchases DOME is taking a bold step into the world of superlarge format and super speed sheetfed offset printing.  Misha Pavlov, DOME’s President explains, “The KBA Rapida 205’s XXL sheet size with 5-color UV printing, on substrates up to 48 points at 9,000 sheets per hour is the perfect addition to our business. This is a game-changer for Northern California, Oregon, Northern Nevada, and Washington, enabling DOME to serve customers and prospects in these markets better than anyone, as this is the only 81 inch press in the area. The Rapida 106, 10 color UV perfecting press allows us to do what we already do so well, but better and faster. Who doesn’t love that?”

The superlarge format Rapida gives DOME the versatility and speed that is essential to the in-store signage and display segments of retail marketing. The Rapida 106 is a 10 color, double coater, full-interdeck UV press, which makes ready all 10 colors in 60 seconds, and runs at 15,000 (perfecting) to 18,000 sheets (straight) per hour. This fully loaded press will bring increased quality, efficiency and greater productivity while offering high-end applications previously not offered in-house.

These new presses will be up and running by the end of this year and will not only enhance services to existing clients but open doors to new verticals. Tim Poole, DOME’s CEO and Partner states, “The new press acquisitions are in alignment with DOME’s core strategic initiatives. We are positioning ourselves to provide not only the highest quality products to our clients, but continue to drive down our cost by being the most efficient printing facility in the US market.”

The signing of the agreements happened in Las Vegas at the GlobalShop 2017 Store Design, Planning and Merchandising Expo. “Everything came together and we are here at GlobalShop, which is the world’s largest annual show for retail experts,” says Bob Poole, DOME CMO and Partner, “and this is the place to share our big news. Our retail clients are here and the enlarged print format of the 81 inch and the versatility of the 10 color adds creative options to their display designers.”

Sherwin Poorsina, EVP Sales affirms, “DOME continues to differentiate itself in our industry by offering software solutions to our retail clients, broad product lines, and a customer-centric culture. I truly believe that our clients understand what DOME’s value is — bringing total cost of ownership savings.”

DOME Print and Marketing Solutions Installs EFI’s Two Newest VUTEk Production Inkjet Printers

FREMONT, California — July 27, 2016 — DOME Print and Marketing Solutions is meeting rising demand for high-quality, superwide-format inkjet graphics with a pair of strategic investments in its new manufacturing facility. DOME, which is one of Northern California’s leading independent commercial print businesses, has upgraded its superwide-format inkjet production operations, becoming one of the first on the West Coast to install an EFI™ VUTEk® HS125 Pro hybrid roll/flatbed inkjet press and an EFI VUTEk LX3 Pro hybrid LED inkjet printer.

Based in Sacramento, Calif., DOME is a family-owned business with a diverse customer base that includes many well-known retail brands. The new EFI VUTEk installations will provide the upgraded speed and quality the company needs to produce a growing volume of indoor signage with tight turnaround times.

“Our single largest growth area is in retail,” said Bob Poole, DOME’s chief marketing officer. “And our technology investment with the new VUTEk printer purchases is driving a lot of that growth because it helps us print better-quality work at faster speeds.”

The two new 3.2m-wide inkjet production devices replace a pair of 3.2m VUTEk devices used at DOME. The VUTEk HS125 Pro model DOME installed is the most productive VUTEk press ever developed, and prints 25% faster than the previous-model VUTEk HS series press it is replacing. The HS125 Pro press delivers high-quality, variable gloss output with innovative UV/LED Pin & Cure imaging technology, and has a variety of automated material handling options to accommodate high-volume throughput.

The new VUTEk LX3 Pro printer DOME installed features energy-efficient, “cool cure” LED imaging technology. It replaced a 3.2m VUTEk GS series LED printer and offers a new, extended-gamut ink capable of delivering eight-color quality results using only four colors. Although the printer runs up to eight colors plus white, “we’ve found that the four-color mode on the LX3 Pro printer will work for a lot of jobs, and it will allow us to see some cost savings,” said Poole.

“The LX3 Pro model has given DOME the ability to create new applications with its cool-cure capabilities. “I can print on a yoga mat, which is a foam-based, flammable product that you can’t print on with heat-based technologies,” Poole said. “They look phenomenal, and once people started seeing them, our orders for custom yoga mats took off.”

DOME Print and Marketing Solutions has also installed the latest-version EFI Fiery® proServer digital front end to drive its new printers. The newly enhanced Fiery proServer offers superior color management as well as extremely efficient processing, RIPing VUTEk print jobs up to 60% faster than previous proServer versions.

Business expansion and employment growth with superwide-format

The installations come as DOME embarks on a progressive reinvestment to build on its profile as a premiere, one-stop provider of print and marketing services. In 2015, DOME acquired an established signage design and manufacturing company, and the family-owned company’s leaders are continuing to invest for success.

The company is consolidating all of its superwide-format inkjet display and screen print signage operations, along with a full range of related finishing services. The expansion will lead to several new hires tied to ongoing growth in demand.

“We’re anticipating a very busy fourth quarter,” Poole said. “That’s why we’re making these upgrades now. I’m going to need every piece of machinery I have just to keep up with demand. We expect to significantly increase the overall percentage of large-format work and by consolidating everything into one facility it’s going to make things a lot easier.”

In addition to being a display graphics provider, DOME is a full-service commercial print business offering offset printing, mailing, and even marketing services and programming. EFI equipment has helped the company expand a niche display graphics offering into a more robust service popular with new and existing DOME clients.

“EFI equipment has allowed our shop to grow beyond expectations, and the new equipment will allow us to continue on that path,” said DOME EVP of Operations Misha Pavlov. “We are very pleased to be working with EFI. Now we have the latest and the greatest technologies to ensure we continue to serve our customers at the highest levels.”

EFI’s complete printer portfolio, which in addition to industry-leading LED and UV inkjet narrow-, wide- and superwide-format technologies includes aqueous textile and ceramic decoration printers, gives customers profitable opportunities for “Imaging of Things,” delivering greater product customization and appeal in everything from signage and packaging to décor, apparel and industrial manufacturing. DOME Printing Brings Wide Format Printing In-House

FREMONT, CA—August 11, 2014—EFI, a world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, today announced that Sacramento, CA-based Dome Printing has purchased and installed a pair of 3.2-meter wide EFI VUTEk printing systems—an EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro UV inkjet pressOpens in a new window and an EFI VUTEk GS3250LX Pro LED inkjet printer.Opens in a new window The presses are the centerpieces of Dome Printing’s new, superwide-format graphics business.

Dome Printing, one of Northern California’s leading independent commercial offset print businesses, is attracting new customers with its equipment investment—clients that did not purchase offset before but had specialized superwide-format signage and graphics needs. Many of the company’s existing customers are also taking advantage of Dome Printing’s new inkjet capabilities, expanding their current print marketing efforts to include superwide-format graphics applications. In those scenarios, the high-quality imaging available with EFI VUTEk equipment and the EFI Fiery proServersOpens in a new window Dome Printing also installed with its new inkjet devices ensure accurate color matching between offset and inkjet print jobs.

The company, a long-time user of EFI’s MIS workflow software products, is effectively and efficiently expanding its business offerings with its new VUTEk purchases. Both machines are hybrid format devices that can print work on rigid substrates as well as banners, billboards and other graphics printed on flexible roll media.

“The white ink printing capabilities on our new VUTEk equipment was important, but the real deciding factors were the hybrid flatbed/roll-to-roll capabilities and the fast throughput,” said Bob Poole, Dome Printing’s co-owner. “The quality is exceptional, especially with the EFI Fiery proServer and its superior color management capabilities.”

Inkjet graphics growing ‘by leaps and bounds’

Founded by Ray Poole in 1969, Dome Printing offers everything from creative services and digital printing to fulfillment and integrated business solutions, including custom client storefront solutions. Ray’s sons Tim and Bob Poole have now restructured and built a next-generation business since purchasing the company from their parents in 2004.

“We grew 20 percent last year and expect that same level of growth this year,” said Tim Poole, who is Dome Printing’s CEO. “Part of that is attributable to the technology solutions we offer customers, but we are seeing the VUTEk business growing by leaps and bounds as well.”

Installation of the new printers and their color calibration went quickly. “We were already running a huge retail package on our VUTEk GS3250LX Pro the first week it was in our shop,” Bob Poole said, “and it went off without a hitch. We could hardly wait to get our hands on the HS100 Pro the following week. We already needed the capacity!”

Prior to the installation, many of the company’s local clients had to go to Southern California or out of the state to get the type of large-format printing they were seeking. “By adding that service to our mix,” Bob Poole stated, “we are able to bring that business into the Northern California economy.”

“We are very pleased that Dome Printing chose EFI as the partner it can rely on to get this exciting new business launched,” said Frank Mallozzi, senior vice president, worldwide sales and marketing, EFI. “Dome Printing’s clients will benefit from the superior versatility, quality and productivity these two EFI VUTEk products offer.”

Powerful print solutions for roll and flatbed graphics

Both of Dome Printing’s new VUTEk investments feature true, variable-drop grayscale imaging for higher image quality and accurate spot-color matching. They also offer opaque white ink and a unique, multilayer printing capability for high-end visual appeal on backlit displays and other applications.

Operating at speeds up to 100 boards per hour, the EFI VUTEk HS100 Pro press gives Dome Printing a more-cost effective option to produce a wide variety of medium-run graphics jobs. The digital UV inkjet press represents a true alternative to analog equipment, offering throughput comparable to screen printing with print quality that approaches offset. The press features EFI’s Pin & Cure imaging technology, which offers precise ink lay-down, gloss control and greater imaging accuracy.

The EFI VUTEk GS3250LX Pro is a production-level LED inkjet hybrid printer. Its “cool cure” LED curing technology lowers operating costs and provides a greener alternative for graphics printing, with significantly less energy consumption and virtually no VOCs. LED also gives the VUTEk GS3250LX Pro the ability to print on heat-sensitive and less-expensive lightweight media that cannot withstand the heat of other drying or curing methods.

Complementing its installation of new EFI VUTEk printing equipment, Dome Printing also acquired an Esko cutting table for finishing flatbed-printed graphics jobs.
